I love foie gras!

Every trip we go to France I have to have foie gras poele as often as I can since I can't have it back at home. That's when they sautéed the entire goose liver whole and serve it with something sweet like a fig jam. Doug thinks I'm going to die of high cholesterol one day, but it's only 3 times a year. Since I can't have it at home we sometimes bring home the next best thing: preserved foie gras that comes in a glass jar like this one:
Rougie is the brand they sell at the airport so we try to buy something more artisanal at a local shop near our hotel or if the Chatou antiques fair is going on then that is the place to buy Marie's Fresh Homemade foie gras which is my favorite. Here in Miami you can get some at Chocolate Fashion, a great bakery down the street from our shop or from Marky's in North Miami, they ship anywhere.

I love foie gras, too! There's a restaurant here that serves it, and they're always being picketed... I think they should do something better with their time.

Love your blog... i spent a lot of time in Paris a few years ago, working on a project, and got to know the sides of the city that most people don't see.

Thanks for your comment. You know, the last time I was in Paris I was wearing my winter coat which has a fox fur fringe on the hood and a woman on a bicycle passed by and starting yelling at me "Oh, how nice you have an animal that was skinned alive on your coat." These people annoy me because I think they are hypocrites. Is she going to tell me that she doesn't use or eat ANYTHING animal derived? Some animals may be treated unfairly on farms, etc but they are animals that are bred for that purpose. I'm sorry that the goose has to suffer for my indulgences. But he's a goose. People picket more about animal rights than they do about child abuse--and THAT really makes me upset. Children live in abusive homes or live under subhuman conditions all over the world. And they just picket for the geese and calves. Probably more than you wanted to hear but thanks for giving me the opportunity to rant about this!
